The SENICA Driving Rehabilitation Program is designed to target drivers who have had misdemeanor traffic violations and/or two or more traffic accidents within the past ten years. This might also include those convicted of driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and overall bad driving patterns.
This program targets thought distortions. Participants are provided with knowledge and skills to modify these cognitive distortions, which ultimately lead to changes in feelings, behaviors and attitudes about driving and driving laws.
Studies show that one of every six traffic deaths in Michigan involves drivers who repeatedly violate the rules of the road. Some examples of dangerous driving habits include the person who is aggressive, passes on the shoulder, uses excessive speed, and cuts across lanes of traffic.
The SENICA Driving Rehabilitation Program is a 12-week program that includes education and group process, with full and total participation from each client. Each group lasts one and a half hours (see syllabus). Our primary goals are accountability and responsibility, which are addressed in each session.
Clients with a current license are required to install the SENICA Black Box in their vehicles. SENICA's Black Box will give the driver an audible warning alert. If the driver ignores the warning and fails to take corrective action, a steady tone will sound until the unsafe driving condition is stopped. All unsafe driving is recorded in the driver scoring reports downloaded at SENICA monthly and forwarded to the appropriate probation office.
